(episode
written by Douglas Petrie, directed by Bruce Seth
Green)
A
girl is running down an alleyway, she looks
behind her to see if she's been followed. A man
stops her, he knows her, they exchange words and
he hits her. She begs him to stop, but he pulls a
gun on her.... Angel intervenes, disarming the
attacker and knocks him unconscious.
Spike
is watching from a nearby roof top, and gives his
own narration to the conversation between Angel
and Rachel, mocking his former sire. As they
leave, Spike declares his mission, he intends to
kill Angel.
The
following morning Oz arrives at Angel
Investigations. Cordelia is typing up an invoice,
and is pleased that they will be getting paid.
Doyle points out that an invoice doesn't equal
money, people do default on debts sometimes... Oz
enters and Cordelia is pleased to see him,
repeating his name several times. By the time she
introduces Doyle, with the comment "he
'quote' works here", he has already figured
out the visitors name. They head downstairs to
Angel's basement appartment.
Angel
and Oz exchange one word sentances, then Oz gives
Angel a ring Buffy has sent to him. The Ring of
Amara. Both Angel and Doyle know what the ring
is, but Cordelia needs an explanation. The ring
is like the vampires 'holy grail'. I t makes the
wearer, if they are a vampire, unkillable. Oz
also mentions that Spike is after the ring.
Doyle
declares Oz's visit a reason to celebrate, so
they go out to a bar. Angel stays behind, and
decided to hide the ring in the tunnels below his
apartment.
The
following day Doyle has a very bad hangover, and
can't get the painkillers out of the bottle.
Cordelia steps in to get the pills out for him,
and mentions how he had been calling Oz his
little 'bam bam' the previous evening. Doyle
doesn't remember much about the previous evening.
Angel
is doing Tai Chi in his apartment. The phone
rings. It's Rachel, she's scared, Lenny has been
let out on a technicallity. He promises to go
over to her place to talk to her. As he gets to
his car in the garage Spike attacks Angel,
wanting the Ring. They fight, fairly evenly
matched. Cordy and Doyle come into the garage to
see what the commotion is. Spike comments that
Cordelia has lost weight, she starts to mention a
gym she goes to, but stops part way. Now
outnumbered, Spike decides to back off, and try
again later. Angel insists that Cordy and Doyle
go over to Doyle's apartment. Spike knows
Cordelia, so her place won't be safe.
Relunctantly she agrees....
Angel
continues on over to Rachel's. She is worried
that she'll let him back in her life again, she
always does. Angel tells her what she needs to
hear to convince her to walk away for good.
At
Doyle's, which is in need of a little bit of
tidying, Cordelia fills him in on who Spike is.
And also mentions 'the Judge', the unkillable
demon Spike and Dru resurected back in Sunnydale.
Spike phones round some of his 'contacts' to try
to track down where Spike might be hiding. Angel
phones in, and Doyle tells him where to find
Spike....
When
Angel finds Spike, he gives in a little too
easily, and Angle finds out why. A chain is
lasooed around him by Spike's new acomplice,
Marcus....
Cordy
and Doyle are starting to get worried. Angel
should have checked in by then.
....
Angel is chained up in an abandoned warehouse.
His arms lashed up above him, his feet only just
reaching the ground. Marcus puts on some music,
Mozart. Spike tells Angel that he wants the ring,
and that Marcus will tourture him until he gets
it. Marcus likes children. Marcus asks Angel what
he wants, then runs him through with a red hot
poker. Spike tells Angel about Buffy's 'new'
boyfriend, Parker, taunting him, then he
leaves... he goes over to Angels appartment to
search for the ring. Marcus shoots some holes in
the ceiling of the warehouse, revealing sunlight
close to Angel....
Cordy
and Doyle trun up at the appartment and discover
Spike. Cordelia has a crossbow. Spike tells them
to find the ring and bring it to him, or Angel
will die.
....Marcus
is still torturing Angel, but Angel see's an
opportunity to stop him. He gets a piece of wood
between his feet while Marcus' back is turned.
The attempt fails and Marcus is upset...
Cordy
and Doyle search the appartment and then head in
to the sewers to try and find the ring. Doyle
'demons out' when Cordy isn't looking and
'sniffs' out the ring. They go to the rendevous
and Spike brings them to the warehouse. Doyle
throws the ring past Spike and turns to fetch it,
just as Oz crashes in with his van. They free
Angel and bundle into the van and drive off.
Spike looks for the ring, it's gone.
Marcus
is walking toward the pier, in broad daylight....
Spike
is not happy that Marcus took the ring. He starts
to trash what's left in the warehouse, and
accidently walks under one of the holes in the
roof. His hair catches on fire briefly...
Marcus
is on the pier, walking towards a group of cub
scouts....
Angel
is badly injured, but insists they turn around
and look for Marcus. As he gets closer to the
scouts, Oz drives onto the pier and runs him
down. Cordy jumps out of the van and tells the
scouts run. Doyle fights with Marcus briefly,
then Angel jumps out of the van, catching alight,
and knocks Marcus into the sea, following him
into the water. They fight under the pier, and
Angel manages to get Marcus staked, but he
doesn't turn to dust. Angel grabs the ring off
Marcus, and he is finally dusted. Angel puts the
ring on and emerges nervously from under the
pier, he takes a short walk along the beach. Oz
comments how pale Angel looks, in the light of
day...
Doyle
and Angel are on the roof top, watching the
sunset. Angel has decided not to wear, or even
keep the ring. It's the victims of the night that
need him most. When the sun has finally gone
down, he takes off the ring and crushes it with a
brick. There is a small burst of light, and the
ring is no more.
