written by Howard Gordon and Tim Minear, directed

Cordelia
is narrating a promotional video for Angel
Investigations. The 'Dark Avenger' rescues a girl
from being attacked whilst walking home late at
night. It's Cordelia's idea, not actually been
produced, and Angel is not convinced. So Cordelia
turns on Doyle, he should be in the video, after
all, Angel is way too larger than life.
Doyle
is given the script by Cordelia and, whilst she
is filming, he reads it whilst sitting on Angel's
desk. Some of the spelling is wrong, Cordy has
put 'rats' instead of 'rates'. She says that
Doyle has a 'weasle factor'....
Doyle
goes downstairs to check on Angel, and Angel
confesses to the day with Buffy. He says you
never know your strength until you're tested.
Doyle
and Cordy are talking, they are sitting on the
steps outside the offices. He tells her what
Angel had told him, about the day with Buffy. He
starts to tell Cordy that he's a demon, but
before he can tell her he gets a vision. A demon
girl is running, she's scared, there is an 'army'
marching...
Doyle
and Angel go in search of the demons from his
vision. When they find the place where they're
living it appears abandoned. They find a hatch in
the floor and discover the demons hiding beneath.
They are hiding from the Scourge. They tell of a
legend about a promised one who would protect
them, save them from the Scourge. Doyle has gone
quiet. He knows of the Scourge, they're Death...
Flashback
- Doyle is in his rundown appartment, someone
sneeks out from the shadows, a Bracken demon,
like Doyle. He asks Doyle for help, a place to
hide from the Scourge, but Doyle refuses....
Doyle is smoking a cigarette, then gets a major
pain in his head, with pictures, his first
vision. He sees the Bracken demons, dead. He
can't rest, he has to know if it's real. He goes
to find them, and find's what his vision showed
him, all dead, male, female, young and old, all
masacred.
Present
day - Doyle and Angel decide to help the Lister
demons to escape the Scourge. They call Cordy and
get her to bring them a truck. When she arrives
she freaks at the fact that they are helping
demons, they're suppose to kill demons, not help
them. Doyle explains that they're harmless
demons, they don't hurt people or anything. He
fills her in on the plan, about getting a ship to
take them to an island where they'll be safe, and
tells her about the Scourge, the 'pure blood'
demons who will kill anything that is not
Scourge...
One
of the Lister boys has run off, and Doyle goes to
find him. The others don't want to leave him
behind. He eventually finds him and manages to
persuade him to go back. Before they can get back
they run into the Scourge and have to hide, but
the Scourge are closing in. They're dressed like
Nazi's, and destroy anything that gets in their
way. Angel manages to find Doyle and the boy, and
takes Doyle, in his Bracken form, to the Scourge,
and asks to join them. He snaps Doyles neck and
they decide to let the Vampire join them. The boy
finds Doyle, apparently dead. Doyle opens his
eyes, straightens his neck, clicking it back into
place, and changes back into human form. Angel
joining the Scourge was a decoy.
Cordy
has found them a ship and they are all on board,
in the hold, waiting. One of the Lister demons
mentions about Doyle being half Bracken, which
comes as a bit of a shock to Cordelia.
At
the Scourge headquarters they are readying for
battle, and the Scourge leader introduces a super
weapon, the Beacon, that emitts a bright light
that eliminates anything with 'human' flesh,
which includes most demons who the Scourge
consider as 'half breeds'. The machine is
demonstrated, on one of the crew from the ship
who has betrayed the Listers. During the rush to
get into battle Angel manages to give them the
slip.
Doyle
and the Lister boy finally get to the ship.
Cordelia slaps Doyle for failing to mention that
he's half demon, siting a variety of other traits
that she considers far worse, some of which could
be attributed to Doyle. She ends the lecture with
'would you ask me out for dinner already?!'
Angel
then arrives, only slightly ahead of the Scourge.
Doyle and Cordy go below and warn the Listers.
When the Scourge arrive the leader confronts
Angel.
[Scourge]
- You lied to us half breed!
[Angel] - You catch on quick football head!
Angel
goes into battle mode and manages to take out a
number of the Scourge. Whilst battling the
Scourge leader they tumble into the hold area.
The 'Beacon' is being lowered over the hold. The
Listers have been locked in, they are trapped.
Angel manages to kill the Scourge leader and
decides he should try to disconnect the Beacon.
It would mean being killed, but it's a sacrifice
he has to make. Before Angel can jump across to
the now powering up Beacon, Doyle hits him and
knocks him into the hold. Doyle turns to Cordelia
and kisses her, a blue glow exchanging between
them, then changes to his Bracken form.
[Doyle]
- Who knows if this is a face you could have
loved?
He
turns and jumps across to the Beacon. He grabs at
the leads, the light beginning to burn at his
flesh, and, just before it has reached full
power, he manages to disconnect it. In a brief
flash the Beacon goes dark, but Doyle is gone.
Angel
has made his way back up to the gallery where
Cordelia is stood, they hug....
Back
at the office Angel and Cordelia are watching the
promotional tape she had made earlier....
[Doyle]
- Come on over to our offices and you'll see that
there are still hero's in this world....
