Buffy Season 1

He was eventually seconded by a friendly Demon, Whistler, to help the new Slayer, a nieve teenager called Buffy Summers. When he'd got himself into shape, he followed her to the Hellmouth, and began watching over her, always in the right place at the right time to rescue her. On one occassion he 'dusted' his own Sire, Darla, in order to protect Buffy.

Buffy Season 2

Slowly they fell in love, and on Buffy's seventeenth birthday they gave in to their passion for each other, with nightmare results. Angel lost his soul, and reverted to the evil Angelus. He terrorised Buffy and her friends, and murdered Miss Calender, leaving her body in Giles' house. Eventually the battle between slayer and vampire came to a head when Angel opened a gateway to Hell through the demon Acathla. Only his blood could close the gateway. Before Buffy could send Angelus to Hell, closing the gateway, Willow managed to restore his soul. But the gateway had to be closed. Buffy had to send her Angel to Hell....

Buffy Season 3

....then he came back, a tourtured soul. He gradually recovered, and carried on watching over Buffy. Eventually he realised being around Buffy was not good for either of them, and leaves Sunnydale to start a new life in LA, fighting evil, to redeem his soul....

Angel Season 1

Initially shying away from people, in case he got the urge to 'nibble' one, Angel was encouraged to become more involved with human society by a new part-demon mentor, Allan Francis Doyle. With the additional help of Cordelia, who was in need of a job, they set up Angel Investigations, with the 'tag' line 'We help the helpless'. Doyle had his own past to redeem, and sacrificed himself so that Angel would live. It took a little while for Angel to come to terms with losing his friend, but eventually invited the hapless ex-watcher Wesley to join Angel Investigations. A strong family-like bond has slowly evolved between the three.
