A12 Prophecy Girl

Giles discovers an old prophecy that foretells the death of the Slayer at the hands of the Master, led to him by the Annointed One like a lamb to the slaughter, who then rises from below to walk the Earth again, and opens the Hellmouth.

Giles hides this from Buffy, but she overhears him talking to Angel about it in the library. They argue and Buffy quits as the Slayer.

Willow has been persuaded by Cordelia to help set up the sound system for the May Queen dance at the Bronze. When they find that the boys who were supposed to be helping hadn't turned up, they go to the school to find them. When they do find them they get quite a shock, they have all been massacred, by vampires. Willow is distraught by what she saw, saying the vampires had 'made that place their own'. Buffy decides not to quit after all and goes to the library to get kitted out to face the Master. Giles refuses to let her, saying he will go himself. Buffy knocks him out, takes the cross bow and heads off into the night.

The Annointed One, a boy, leads her into the Master's lair. The Master sneeks up on her and she is unable to fight him. He bites her neck, and she falls face first into a pool. The master leaves the lair to head above.....

The others have learned of the prophecy, and Xander is not prepared to sit around and do nothing, declaring 'calm maybe okay for Locutus of Borg, but I'm freaked out and intend to stay that way'. He promptly heads out of the library and goes in search of Angel. He manages to persuade Angel to show him where the Master's lair is so that they can rescue Buffy. They arrive moments after Buffy falls into the water and Angel drags her out, declaring she is dead. Xander won't accept this and gives her mouth to mouth ressucitation. Buffy takes a breath, coughs out some water, and comes round.

With a new found energy Buffy gets to her feet and heads above with the others.

Willow and Miss Calender head out of the school, only to find the undead heading their way. Just as they think there is no escape a car drives through the crowd to them. Cordelia enquires whats going on, and Willow and Miss Calender get in the car and instruct her to head for the library. She promptly agrees and drives her car through the school to the library doors, where they make a run for it into the library. With Giles help they move furniture in front of the door, but others start to come through the stacks. Willow and Miss Calender rush up to the stacks and block the doors there. Just when they think things can't get much worse, the floor starts to open up and tendrals creep out, followed by a monster, the Hellmouth. A tendral wraps around Willow's leg and starts to pull her towards the snapping voracious Hellmouth. She screams for help, Miss Calender tries to hold her back, and Giles attacks the Hellmouth with an axe, only to be knocked away....

Buffy heads to the roof of the school where the Master is stood surveying the world he intends to destroy. He is shocked to see her. They exchange comments, Buffy making jokes about his 'raspberry mouth'. They fight, and Buffy manages to knock the Master through the skylight above the library, he falls onto the jagged edge of a broken table. The Master disintigrates to ash, leaving just a skeleton. The Hellmouth disappears.

Angel and Xander enter the library with Buffy as the others gather themselves. They all decide to go to the party at the Bronze, turn and exit the library........
