A9 The Puppet Show
A new Principle has
finally arrived at Sunnydale High, Mr Snyder. One
of his first jobs is to press-gang Giles into
arranging a talent show, and making Buffy and the
gang participate. It's not long before one of the
shows cast is found dead, with an organ missing.
The gang convene and start to investigate their
new case. The prime suspect becomes a
ventriliquist and his dummy.
When the ventriliquist,
one of the brighter students, is found dead, with
his brain missing, the gang know time is running
out to stop whatever it is. Whilst investigating
further Buffy subsequently finds his missing
brain. Willow consults the schools records and
discovers that the student had in fact got a
brain tumor, so the brain was not suitable. The
demon still needs a brain. But just who is the
demon? The gang find a new ally in the form of
the dummy. It seems the toy had been occupied by
the consience of a private investigator who had
been tracking the demon for years.
With no luck tracing the
demon, the curtain rise of the show looms. The
shows magician is fine tuning his act and asks
Giles for his help. He asks him to help him test
the guilotene. Giles agrees and lays on the
table. The magician guides him to the 'right'
position, then ties him down. Giles starts to get
a bit worried. The magician has him placed so
that only the top of his head/scalp would be
removed by the guilotene. With Giles now
seriously worried, Buffy and co charge in to
rescue him, with Xander catching the rope of the
guilotene just in time. Willow frantically tries
to untie Giles with no luck. With Buffy battling
the demon, Xander manages to pass Willow and axe
to free Giles. The demon is no longer in disguise
and just as Giles gets up from the guilotene, the
demon falls into it and Xander releases the rope.
The dummy enters and finishes the kill properly,
stabbing the demon in the heart, which also
releases his own consience from it's wooden
prison. The curtains of the stage open to a
packed hall......
Later, with the show under
way......
Buffy, Xander and Willow
are giving their disjointed recital, Willow
freezes, then runs off the stage. Buffy and
Xander close the gap.......
