Buffy Season Three

Anyanka, the patron 'demon' of scorned women, also known as the 'wish demon', first turns up in Sunnydale after the spilts between Xander and Cordelia, and Willow and Oz. She takes on the guise of a new student at Sunnydale High, Anya Emerson, and joins the 'cordettes'. She makes friends with Cordelia, and gives her an Amulet to wear, which grants her wishes. The wish Cordelia makes is that 'Buffy had never come to Sunnydale', and she finds herself in a Sunnydale run by the Vampire Master. Cordelia manages to find the 'other' Giles and tells him about Buffy, but is killed shortly after by Vampire's Willow and Xander. Giles notices the Amulet and takes it from her body to research further. When he discovers what it is, Anyanka's power, he decides to destroy it, in the hope of ending the hellish timeline in which he's been living. We return to 'our' timeline and Cordelia is making her wishes, but the Amulet is no longer around her neck, and the wishes don't work. Anyanka is now a 'thousand year old' mortal teenager...

In an effort to regain her powers, Anya tricks Willow into casting a spell to retrieve her 'lost necklace', the spell goes awry and brings Vampire Willow, not the Amulet, into this timeline. Mayhem ensues, Anya's true identity is discovered, and Vampire Willow is eventually returned to her own timeline.

Anya finds herself drawn towards Xander. He's not like most of the other guys at school. She decides to ask him to go to the Prom with her, and he agrees. The date is not the funnest of dates, with Anya constantly telling the tales of how she's smited unfaithfull men across the centuries, and her communcation skills need a lot of work, making Cordelia look positively oosing with 'tact'. After the Prom she does continue to try to strike up conversation with Xander and shortly before Graduation Day, Xander tells her that if they 'survive the Ascension' he'll maybe go out with her again. Anya freaks. She's been to an Ascension, and was lucky to escape. She is pursaded to recount the event to the scoobies, before fleeing Sunnydale. Before leaving she tries to persuade Xander to come with her, stating that the thought of something bad happening to him 'makes her want to throw up'. Xander makes a comment about being sorry about giving her barfy feelings, but he's staying to fight the mayor with his friends. Anya leaves Sunnydale.

Buffy Season Four

Anya returns to Sunnydale and tracks down Xander, who is now living in his parents basement. She promptly takes off her clothes and states 'why have interlocking bodies and not interlock'. Xander is unable to argue her logic and a relationship begins. She still has a lot to learn about conversation skills and tact.

When invited to the college Halloween party with Xander, she dresses as a bunny. She has a major fear of bunnies...

Anya continues to build a relationship with Xander and gradually becomes a member of the scooby gang.
