B7 Lie To Me
(episode written and
directed by Joss Whedon)
A young boy is waiting for
his mother by the climbing frames in the park.
It's getting dark, and she is late, very late. A
voice calls to him, and English womans voice. A
dark haired woman in a long white dress slowly
moves towards him. He keeps a distance between
them, cautious and scared. Drusilla slowly moves
closer, only to be interupted by her sire. Angel
tells the boy to run, all the way home. He
doesn't hesitate and disapears out of the
park....
...Buffy is out hunting,
and looks down from her rooftop vantage point to
see if there is any 'action' to be had in the
park. She see's Angel talking to a dark haired
woman, they seem close...
An old school friend of
Buffy's turns up at Sunnydale High. Ford has
moved to Sunnydale to complete his education, or
so he says. Buffy is excited that her old friend
is in town and invites him to join her and her
new friends at the Bronze. He agrees. Xander
instantly dislikes him.
At the Bronze Ford gets to
meet Angel, who is introduced as just a friend,
not as Buffy's boyfriend. Buffy is cold towards
Angel, and asks what he did the night before, he
say's nothing much. Buffy and Ford leave the
Bronze, and for once Angel and Xander have
something in common, an immediate dislike of
young Mr Fordham. Outside the Bronze someone is
being attacked and Buffy goes into slaying mode,
slipping away from Ford to dust the vampires
without him noticing, but he does notice and is
not surprised. He knew Buffy was the Slayer. They
head back pass the school and notice some people
acting suspisious. They go to investigate. Two
vampires are snooping around. Buffy attacks one
of them, a male, and slays him, while Ford deals
with the female. They exchange words and he lets
the female vampire go. He tells Buffy he's slain
her, and she doesn't doubt him. They head off
home.
Ford goes down into a
basement room where a couple of friends greet
him. There are others milling around and a
vampire movie playing on a big screen. He advises
them that all is going to plan.
Willow is getting ready to
go to bed, there is a tap on her window. She goes
over, it's Angel. She lets him in, and hurredly
gathers some 'abandoned' underwear and hides it.
She warns Angel that she is not supposed to have
boys in her room so they have to be quiet. He
asks her if she can check something on the
internet for him. Willow replys okay, and
comments 'I am *so* the net girl' sarcastically.
She goes online and asks what he wants to know.
He asks her to check on Ford, to make sure he is
telling the truth. Willow is suspisious, Angel is
just jealous, but checks any way. Her mother
calls to her and she hurries Angel out, and
promises to let him know what she discovers as
soon as possible.
Willow is acting weird
when Buffy arrives at school the following day
with Ford, she says it's the coffee. Buffy
introduces him to Giles, and mentions the
vampires. It's noted for future reference.
Willow discovers that Ford
has not yet registered at Sunnydale High, and
that he'd been taking a lot of time out from the
high school in LA for medical reasons. He's
definately not telling the full story. She
reports back to Angel early that evening and,
along with Xander, they go in search of Ford's
hide out. They find it and manage to get inside
and wonder round. No-one seems suspicious. They
speak briefly to a girl dressed in black gothic
called 'Chanterelle'. Ford's friend is a little
suspisious but they leave before he gets a chance
to question them. When Ford gets back he tells
him, but Ford says it's too late and there's
nothing Buffy's friends can do anyway.
At the High School library
Buffy and Giles are knocked down by a vampire who
comes racing out of Giles' office. Buffy
recognises her as the vampire Ford claims to have
slain, and she's taken one of Giles books. The
female vampire takes the book to Spike and
Drusilla, but are interupted by an intruder,
Ford. He tells Spike that he wants to become a
vampire, and that there are others who want to
cross over aswell. Spike is unimpressed and
threatens to kill him there and then, but Ford
offers him an exchange. The slayer, for bringing
him and his friends across. Spike is interested
and they discuss the plans.
The following day Ford
asks Buffy to meet him that evening. The location
is to be a surprise. Buffy agrees. Willow and
Xander are more than suspicious by now but don't
say anything to Buffy yet, as they have little
evidence.
Buffy follows Ford to his
hide out. When she is inside they shut the big
metal door which is the only way in, or out. The
door has no handle on the inside, they are
trapped. Ford fills Buffy in on what's going to
happen. He tells her about his brain tumour, and
that he's determined he's not going to die, and
that he is sacrificing her to gain his own
immortality. Buffy tries to talk some sense into
him, but it's far too late. She tries to persuade
the others that they are making a big mistake but
they won't listen. The door opens and Spike,
Drusilla and some other vampires enter. Drusilla
moves to the side at the top of the stairs,
whilst the others disperse amongst their nieve
victims. Before anyone is too seriously hurt
Buffy goes into action, knocking Ford unconcious
and leaping up onto the balcony at the top of the
stairs. She grabs Drusilla and threatens to slay
her if Spike doesn't let everyone go. He
reluctantly agrees and everyone escapes, except
an unconcious Ford. Buffy edges out of the room
and closes the door behind her. Spike goes
forward to grab the door handle to open it and go
after Buffy. He looks down quizzically and
surveys the door.'Uh, where's the door handle?'.
Ford wakes up and heads over to the stairs. The
vampires move in slowly. Ford tells Spike he kept
his side of the bargain, he gave them the slayer,
it wasn't his fault she got away....
Outside Angel and the gang
come towards the hide out, through the escaping
'vampire fans'. They meet Buffy and she tells
them briefly what happened. They are contained
for now, but it won't be long before they get
out, they can come back in the morning. They
enquire why to come back, and Buffy replies 'for
the body'.
Buffy enters the hide out
through a mangled door and slowly heads down the
stairs. There is abody near the bottom. It's
Ford, he's dead.
Buffy and Giles are stood
by Ford's grave, it's early evening. Buffy lays a
reef on the grave. She asks Giles about growing
up, saying that the older she gets the more
confusing it gets... who to like, who to trust,
who not to trust, etc... Ford rises out of the
grave and goes to attack Buffy, she pulls out a
stake and he turns to dust... Buffy asks Giles if
it gets any easier, this growing up thing. He
asks her if she wants the truth, she says no, lie
to me... they turn and start to walk away from
the grave. Giles says it's all terribly simple.
The bad guys are easily identified by their horns
and bad skin, and the good guys always win, and
no-one ever gets killed. Buffy replies
'Liar!'....
