Spike (William the Bloody)

William, also known as Spike, was sired by Drusilla after he was coldly rejected by the object of his affections, Ciciley. He wrote poetry, which was usually laughed at by the circle of people he socialised with. When Drusilla offered him an alternative to his sad and belittled life he quickly accepted. He was quick to rebel, and gradually lost his educated edge, to become a cool, punk style, vampire with a penchant for causing chaos, and killing Slayers. He kills his first Slayer around 1900, in China. The second kill is in New York City, around 1977, and he takes the Slayers leather coat to wear as a trophy.

Buffy Season Two

Spike and his 'sweetheart' Drusilla arrive in Sunnydale to have some fun, only to discover that the resident Slayer is harder to kill than expected. Spike is determined not to be beaten by the Slayer, and becomes obsessed with killing her.

When Angel loses his soul, and rejoins his old 'family', Spike is not happy. Drusilla is happy to have Angelus back, but the two 'boys' are competing for her attention. When Spike is recovered from some debilitating injuries incurred at the hands of the Slayer, he keeps his recovery a secret from them. As the day draws near to Angelus opening the gates to hell through the demon Acathla, Spike sneeks out and tracks down Buffy. He offers her a deal, she lets him and Dru leave Sunnydale, and she can do what she likes with Angel, preferably dust him. Reluctantly Buffy agrees. Spike knocks out Dru and leaves Sunnydale with her.

Buffy Season Three

Spike is dumped by Drusilla, for a slime demon. Depressed, and determined to win her back, he returns to Sunnydale to force Willow to cast a love spell for him. He kidnaps Willow and Xander, but they are eventually rescued before the spell is cast. Spike decides to try to win Drusilla back by torturing her, and leaves Sunnydale again.

Buffy Season Four (and Angel season 1)

Spike returns to Sunnydale, again, but without Drusilla. This time he hooks up with Harmony, who was turned into a vampire on Graduation Day. The reason for his return is to seek out the vampires 'holy grail', the 'Gem of Amara'. He eventually finds the cavern where it's buried, but has trouble figuring which jewel is the right one. By this time Harmony is really annoying him, so in frustration he stakes her, but she doesn't turn to dust. He grabs the ring she has found, puts it on, and goes in search of the Slayer, in full daylight. During the battle, Buffy manages to get the ring off him, and he dives underground just before bursting into flames.

Buffy sends the ring to Angel in LA, and Spike follows. He kidnaps Angel, torturing him, determined to get the jewel back. Cordy, Doyle and Oz manage to get one over on him, and Angel destroys the ring.

Returning to Sunnydale, Spike tracks down Buffy, planning to resume his campaign to kill her, but he gets an unexpected suprise. He is captured by some demon hunting commandos and finds himself trapped in a military lab. He manages to escape, but when he gets to Buffy's dorm, and Willow inadvertantly invites him in, he discovers he can't hurt her. Every time he tries to bite her he gets a major pain in his head. They've 'neutered' him!

With Spike unable to feed, he reluctantly turns to Buffy and her friends for help, in exchange for information on the commandos. They agree, and slowly he becomes a reluctant member of the gang, with Willow, whom he calls 'Red', as his main simpathiser. When he discovers that he can beat up demons, he's delighted, and goes in search of his own accomodation, a crypt in one of the cemetaries, much to the delight of Xander who had been his latest unwitting host.

When Giles is turned into a Fyarl demon, Spike is the only one who realises, and helps Giles track down Ethan Rayne, to 'persuade' him to undo the spell, but for a price. During the escapade, Spike manages to write off Giles Citreon, much to the delight of the scoobies.

When the battle with Adam comes to a head, Spike finds himself allied with the scoobies again, and ends up helping them to defeat the demon army Adam planned to build.
